Optimization under Uncertainty di Giovanni Petrone (Youcanprint)
Uncertainty Quantification
of numerical simulations has had increased interest in recent years and, as a
consequence, so has an interest in a procedure of Optimization under Uncertainty.
One of the main challenges in this field is the efficiency of propagating
uncertainties from the sources to the quantities of interest, especially when
there are many sources of uncertainty. Other important challenges are the
coupling of the optimization procedure with the uncertainty quantification
routines, usually approached as two independent problems, and the necessity to
efficiently perform a massive ensemble of numerical simulations. The primary
goal of this work is to develop algorithms for efficient Uncertainty
Quantification and Optimization under Uncertainty.
Two industrial applications
will be presented: the optimization of wind turbine blade shapes and the
optimization of a Formula 1 tire brake duct. Both problems are multi-objective
and the presence of uncertainties significantly impacts the estimation of their
responses making them well suited to assess the theoretical framework and the
algorithms that will be presented in this book.

AMERIPRISE
“A company with integrity. Integrity has been
a core value since we were founded by John Tappan in 1894. It's how, through
panics, recessions, the Great Depression and the recent Great Recession, we've
grown into a global financial leader. We've never taken a bailout. Never lost
our focus on our clients. That's who we are. We have over $650 billion in
assets under management and administration; we are a top-10 provider of mutual
funds, financial planning, annuities and insurance; more people come to us for
financial planning than any other company.”

QUALCOMM
“In July 1985, seven
industry veterans came together in the den of Dr. Irwin Jacobs’ San Diego home to discuss
an idea. Those visionaries—Franklin Antonio, Adelia Coffman, Andrew Cohen,
Klein Gilhousen, Irwin Jacobs, Andrew Viterbi and Harvey White—decided they
wanted to build “Quality Communications” and outlined a plan that has evolved
into one of the telecommunications industry’s greatest start-up success
stories: Qualcomm Incorporated. Qualcomm started out providing contract
research and development services, with limited product manufacturing, for the
wireless telecommunications market. One of the team’s first goals was to
develop a commercial product. This effort resulted in OmniTRACS®. Since its
introduction in 1988, OmniTRACS has grown into the largest satellite-based
commercial mobile system for the transportation industry today. Qualcomm has an
extensive portfolio of United
States and foreign patents, and we continue
to pursue patent applications around the world. Our patent portfolio is the
most widely and extensively licensed portfolio in the industry with over 195
licensees. This early success led the
company to take a daring departure from conventional wireless wisdom. In 1989,
the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) endorsed a digital technology
called Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA ). Just three months later, Qualcomm
introduced Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA), a superior technology for
wireless and data products that changed the global face of wireless communications
forever. Today, Qualcomm plays a central role in the rapid adoption and growth
of 3G and next-generation wireless around the world. Qualcomm has an extensive
portfolio of United States
and foreign patents, and we continue to pursue patent applications around the
world. Our patent portfolio is the most widely and extensively licensed
portfolio in the industry with over 195 licensees.
The Roots of CDMA are in...Hollywood!? Once described
as the most beautiful woman in the world, actress Hedy Lamarr was one of
Hollywood’s most glamorous silver screen goddesses of the 1930’s and 40’s. But
Ms. Lamarr had another talent: she was brilliant. Working together with
avante-garde music composer George Antheil, Lamarr came up with the notion that
multiple frequencies could be used to send a single radio transmission – a
concept that’s now known as frequency hopping. The concept would eventually
provide the basis for the CDMA airlink, which Qualcomm first commercialized in
1995. Today, CDMA and its core principles provide the backbone for wireless
communications, thanks to the creative vision of one extraordinary woman. “Films
have a certain place in a certain time period, but technology is forever.” -
Hedy Lamarr”

In the future of Arcadia ...
We knights
of the “Ordo Templi Equestris Arcadia Lecce” feel the need to apply for support
to all men and women of goodwill. For a little over three years we are carrying
out numerous cultural, artistic and social initiatives, support to weaker
sections of society to the most needy. We did it only counting our strengths. We have received several awards associating
with other orders of international importance, and we were included in the largest database of orders worldwide
Neo Knights Templars,(http://www.neotemplar.info/index.ahtml), compare with
prestigious orders in studies of CESNUR, and recently we have become an ONG
(nongovernmental organization). Now we
want (in the spirit of international brotherhood and solidarity that was right
at the base ethics of chivalry) to implement our action beyond the borders of
our land, bringing support in places where someone is less fortunate than
ourselves, bringing education where resources maybe there aren’t, creating employment
and development. For our order this is
an important moment, and we want it to be now and in the future for you. Now
will we reach. Give us your hand and together we can build something great!.

KELLOG’S
“Our Best Days Are Yours - From
one great day over 100 years ago all the way to today, Kellogg's has continued
to fuel better days for American families. From going to the moon to feeding
the U.S. Army to making your days great, some of our best days have been in
your home country, the United
States. Discover our best days in the U.S.
1898 — In a fortunately
failed attempt at making granola, our company’s founder, W.K. Kellogg, and his
brother, Dr. John Harvey Kellogg, changed breakfast forever when they
accidentally flaked wheat berry. W.K. kept experimenting until he flaked corn,
and created the delicious recipe for Kellogg’s Corn Flakes.
1906 — W.K. Kellogg opened
the “Battle Creek Toasted Corn Flake Company” and carefully hired his first 44
employees. Together they created the initial batch of Kellogg’s® Corn Flakes®
and brought to life W.K.’s vision for great-tasting, better-for-you breakfast
foods.
1914 — Kellogg’s® Corn
Flakes® was introduced to a new country: Canada. (Later the Kellogg Company
will spread the goodness of grain around the world by opening factories in Australia, England,
Mexico, Japan, India and more. Today Kellogg
brightens breakfast in over 180 countries around the world).
1915 — Kellogg introduced
Bran Flakes, the first high-fiber cereal, promptly followed by the introduction
of Kellogg’s® All-Bran™ one year later.
1923 — The Kellogg Company
made another bold move and become the first in the food industry to hire a
dietitian. Mary Barber started the Kellogg’s Home Economics Department and
began defining the roles different foods played in proper diets.
1930 — As the United States
sunk into the Depression, W.K. Kellogg declared, “I’ll invest in people.” He
split shifts and hired new employees to work them. He also founded the W.K.
Kellogg Foundation ext-link, whose mission — to help children realize their
potential — complements that of the Kellogg Company to this day. To further our
commitment to people, Kellogg became one of the first companies to proudly
display our cereals’ recipes and nutritional info on our boxes — so our
consumers knew exactly what they were eating.
1942-1945 — Kellogg’s
employees proudly produced K-rations for the U.S. armed forces overseas during
World War II, and our engineering teams helped manufacture supplies in Kellogg
machine shops. We continued to help America get nutrition by bringing
new, whole-grain cereal to life when we introduced Kellogg’s® Raisin Bran®.
1969 — The Kellogg Company
was honored to provide breakfast for the legendary Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin
and Michael Collins during their groundbreaking Apollo 11 trip to the moon.
1997 — We opened the W.K.
Kellogg Institute for Food and Nutrition Research — where food scientists,
nutritionists and engineers transform wholesome grains and other ingredients
into great-tasting and good-for-your-family foods.
2006 — The Kellogg Company
celebrated our 100-year commitment to nutrition, health and quality. We also
celebrated our future — by creating new Kellogg’s® Special K® Bars and other
innovative ways of giving your family the delicious nutrition you need to make
the most of every day.
2009-2010 — After
discovering that many people in the U.S. don’t get enough fiber, Kellogg
increased the fiber in many of our most popular cereals — including Kellogg’s®
Froot Loops®. Now, in the U.S.,
Kellogg Company offers more ready-to-eat cereals that provide at least one good
source of fiber (3 grams)
and one-half serving of whole grains (8 grams) than any other U.S. food
company.
Today — We’re proudly
upholding the values W.K. Kellogg instilled more than 100 years ago — but now
we’re doing it in 180 countries across the world. We still provide you and your
family with better breakfasts that lead to better days, and we flake corn the
same way W.K. Kellogg did back in 1898. It just tastes better that way..”
