The debut
novel by Stefano Donno, published in 1999 and presented here in a revised
version by the author, is a slap in the face, an insult to good manners, or,
more simply, one of the most intense love stories and poignant that they were
never told, simply because the two protagonists Charles Bukowski and Anais Nin,
represent two distant worlds and two different ways of writing, poetry,
sexuality, life.
The
mechanism is engaging narrative, just a few pages to be attached to Bukowski
character, then the uneasy man who does not want to admit his feelings, raw and
sincere at the same time. But who, reading between the lines poems by American
author, does not realize that this brutality is hidden behind a great soul?
The gamble
of Donno is realized in assuming a relationship between the two stars of the
literature of the last century, but it is also true that it all starts and ends
as a film, as a Hollywood movie, retaining the cinematic sequences, the speed,
the shots and passes from the scene. The author seems to take communicate that
this is a fairy tale, a tale told with dirty tools of contemporary art,
bringing together an ambition pulp and post-modern with a definite rhythm, that
of the film.
