“SeaLink Today - SeaLink
Travel Group NZ Ltd is one of the country's largest privately owned ferry
companies operating comprehensive car, passenger and freight services to
Waiheke and Great Barrier Islands,
as well as contracting services in and around the Hauraki
Gulf. Waiheke Island
services are provided by the premium brand SeaLink via the Seaway and the
luxury vessel Seacat. Also servicing Waiheke
Island is the FreightLink
vessel Seamaster which offers a slightly slower journey and discounted fares. SeaLink
also provides the life-line to Great
Barrier Island
with the only year-round ferry service carrying cars, passengers and bulk
freight.
SeaLink and Tourism - The
company moved into tourism in September 2005 with the launch of the SeaLink
Holidays brand – offering package holidays to Waiheke and Great Barrier
Islands. Today SeaLink enjoys co-operative partnerships with over 40 tourism
operators, relationships which directly benefit our customers through the
packages marketed in the Holidays programme.
SeaLink's Additional
Services - In addition to its passenger and tourism operations, SeaLink is also
a primary carrier of bulk freight in and around the Hauraki
Gulf. The BK Subritzky is purpose-built for the carriage of
aggregate, lumber, heavy machinery and buildings and can often be seen with
unusual cargoes aboard. SeaLink also provides vehicle and transport services to
Rangitoto, Motutapu, Rakino, Motuihe and Kawau Islands.
SeaLink's History (2011) - In
2011 the company quietly reverted back to New Zealand ownership after 7
successful years in the hands of SeaLink Australia and is now owned by Lyncroft
Properties. Click here to read the press release.
(1960 – 2011) - SeaLink
Travel Group started out as a ferry company owned by the Subritzky family in Auckland in 1960. During
this time it went by various trading names including Subritzky Shipping,
Subritzky Shipping Line and Subritzky on the Hauraki Gulf.
A change of ownership in 2004 saw the purchase of the company by Kangaroo
Island SeaLink, a leading South Australian tourism company and in December 2005
the company was re-named the SeaLink Travel Group. At this point the company
started to focus on tourism and the SeaLink Holidays brand was born."
